EP 214: The Birthday Lesson I Wish Someone Told Me 30 Years Ago...

EP 214: The Birthday Lesson I Wish Someone Told Me 30 Years Ago...
Mark Evans DM

In this episode, I’m sharing the biggest lesson I’ve learned after 48 years on this planet.

As I celebrate my 48th birthday, I’m reflecting on the advice I wish someone had given me 30 years ago — advice that would have saved me years of overthinking, hesitation, and waiting for the "perfect" plan.

The truth?

Nobody has it all figured out.

Not me. Not billionaires. Not the most successful entrepreneurs in the world.

The people you admire aren’t winning because they have all the answers. They’re winning because they’re willing to take action before they have them.

In this episode, I share why "falling forward" has been one of the most valuable skills of my life, why waiting for certainty is one of the biggest mistakes entrepreneurs make, and how the life you want is built one uncomfortable decision at a time.

I also talk about how I’m spending my birthday — taking my family to a local nursing home to hand out flowers, hugs, and conversations to people who have lived full lives and learned lessons many of us ignore until it’s too late.

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time, the perfect plan, or the perfect opportunity… this episode is for you.

Show highlights include:

  • The biggest lesson I’ve learned after 48 years of life and 30 years in business [04:16]

  • Why nobody — not even billionaires — has it all figured out [06:12]

  • The power of "falling forward" and learning through action [05:48]

  • Why waiting for certainty is costing you years of progress [06:57]

  • The dangerous belief that successful people have a secret blueprint [03:30]

  • What I expect to hear from people living in a nursing home about life's biggest regrets [10:29]

  • Why your future is built through uncomfortable decisions made today [12:15]

  • The difference between progress and perfection — and why it matters [11:12]

  • How fear, failure, and uncertainty are part of every meaningful accomplishment [04:52]

  • Why today is the day to take the first step toward the life you want [11:12]

As I walk into that nursing home on my birthday, I already know what many people will say they wish they had done differently.

They’ll wish they had worried less.

Loved harder.

Taken bigger chances.

Been more present.

And lived a little bigger.

My challenge to you is simple:

Stop waiting.

Stop searching for someone who has all the answers.

Stop believing you need certainty before you move.

The answers come after the action.

The confidence comes after the step.

And the life you want is built one imperfect decision at a time.

If not now, then when?

If not you, then who?
